We just wanted to say a big thanks to Jordan and the guys 'n' gals of Recharged Radio for including 'Teen Idol' in their Christmas special show last Friday. Jordan has been a big supporter of us this year and we have appeared numerous times on his show. You can catch old shows and podcasts through itunes, there's a link on www.rechargedradio.com
If you get the chance definately try and listen to the Dec 18th edition, where main man and producer Jordan describes Teen Idol as one of the revelations of 09! "The track that probably sums us (them) up the best!"
Let's hope for more of the same in 2010!

Atomic Duster review..."just what today's musical climate needs".
The Scratch - Whatever Happened To Friday Night? (Ponyland Records) 12/10/2009
T: This is a bit like the Arctic Monkeys doing punk.
N: The musical equivalent of a Brillo pad - punk in the 21st century.
T: Not that horrible genre that passes for punk these days though - it's more like old school, possibly Adam and the Ants before they went commercial, but as you say, given a modern bent. Indefinitely listenable anyway, and possibly just what today's musical climate needs.

Marco Pirroni - Album quote!!!!
Dear Scratchers,
On the back of the brilliant Clint quote, here's one from another of our big heroes!!!
"An amalgam of T.Rex, Velvet Underground and other good things including a big dollop of themselves, The Scratch do eccentric English rock ‘n’ roll with weird but catchy riffs over the top of it all. At times dark and other times funny, they don't do po-faced indie. Thank
God! Check them out guys!"
- Marco Pirroni (ex-Adam & the Ants/The Wolfmen & Howl Records)
Frickin 'ell!!!!!
God bless ya Mr.P!

Trains, pains and Teen Idols!
Dear Scratchers,
Just a little catch up as to Andy's Friday night shenanigans at Recharged radio, where, he and new album cover star Sam Vince, joined Jordan, Justin, Samara and the little Philistines in the studio for the usual reparte, banter and tips for the top... Big thanks to Jord for more plugging and playing of Teen Idol, sounded great in the pub down the road too, so much so, the barmaid knicked the album! Great to meet all the other guys. (We may have found our fifth band for the Christmas Party! watch this space)
However, with anything good, there always seems to be the bad... it being on this occasion the 3 hours it took to get home, when all trains from St.Pancras were cancelled, but despite the replacement bus and the £25 cab from Mill Hill, at least we're safe in the knowledge that A) We weren't at Wembley for Coldplay and B) before long, The Scratch will at last be Teen Idols for 300 Million!
Next stop 2 hours of Hijacked on the Hugh Davenport show! One not to be missed!!!!

Jordan goes all the way with Teen Idol!
No, it's not some weird new PR stunt with Katie price!... it's our mate Jord at Recharged radio... delivering another great 'bigging up' sound bite in his weekly radio roundup email!...
"Finally - if you're following us on Twitter (I mean, really, who wouldn't...?) you might have noticed me banging on about a song by The Scratch called "Teen Idol". Not one to get overly excited about this sort of thing, it really is heffin' AMAZING and if you don't go get a copy of their album (when it's launched later this month) and skip through to track 10, you really will have a piece missing from your life. If, of course, you need this point proving (I mean, don't take my word for it) then just catch the show this Friday. It'll be played within the first half an hour. If you miss it, ask us nicely and we might stick it on again. We're good like that."
Thanks again Jord, keep up the good work!

Standon Calling - Party time with The Scratch
Dear Scratchers,
It was great to be back in festival mode again... this time we swopped the mud of Dorset for the 'potential' mud of Hertfordshire! A local festival for a change, The coolest boutique festival around 'Standon Calling' ... and what a great one it looks to be, spaceships, the Tardis, a crashed Delorian car, 3 themed stages and loos made of wheelie bins!
Following literally months of emailing, as you know from previous blogs, despite the bill being finalised months before, Tina managed to get us invited to play the opening night party!... Thanks to everyone for their hospitality, especially Alex Trenchard, Emma, Francis and all the crew who 'buggied' our great back and forth from the artists car park to the stage!...
It was a memorable night for The Scratch that saw 9 songs, (topped off riotously by Dear Maniac) played to a hungry festival audience (thanks for the burgers by the way... am still burping now!)... with our chances of making the main stage next year enhanced greatly. Finally, biggest thanks to Tina (wrong way Rowen!) and Sarah Vince who took some great shots of the band prior to the performance...
what a great way to warm up for the horn tonight! See you all there
xx

Great new review of You want the world from tastyfanzine!
The Scratch – You Want the World (Ponyland)
There’s something refreshingly uninhibited about The Scratch. Their tracks are quite minimal but all in completely different ways. ‘You Want the World’ is old school and punky, a little like the Undertones (‘Teenage Kicks’ is even referenced in second track, ‘Independent Unrepentent’). Then they throw in a proggy track like ‘Teen Idol (for 300 million)’ – bafflingly obscure and brilliant leftfield.

... Of course if you can't make it, your disappointment will be abated by the fact that our 3rd Horn residency takes place on Friday 31st July...

Just to let you know, Smoky Carrot promotions are putting on a showcase gig on Friday 17th July at a venue near Westbourne Park tube in West London - The Cobden club is by all accounts a great venue...

Clinterview on our myspace player... www.myspace.com/thescratch
Dear Scratchers,
We've just loaded an exciting clip of Clint Boon talking to Hugh Davenport for CRMK radio about us onto our myspace player! It was recorded just before we took to the stage on 5th June. Many thanks to Clint and Hugh for their time. We think you'll agree, that despite it being 2 years since we first met at the M.E.N. Mr.Boon is still a big fan of the band!
You can catch Hugh's Electic Plectrum show every Thursday at www.crmk.co.uk it's well worth a listen!

Losing today - You want the world - review
Dear Scratchers,
Super Mark from losing today, does it again!
The Scratch ‘you want the world’ (pony land). More blitzkrieg bubblegum pop hurtling at velocity from those St Albans types the Scratch. ‘you want the world‘ is the bands final three track salvo before the weighing in of their forthcoming ‘whatever happened to Friday night?’ full length due to hit the shelves of all taste making record stores in October. No need to bore you about how much we here are smitten by these spike topped sounding flashbacks this one track advance promo (the releases twin flip cuts will feature here the minute we nail a finished copy - marketing strategies eh?) has had us bouncing off the walls like bad ‘uns and sporting the kind of contortionist foot shimmies that frankly may well be deemed illegal in certain parts of society and dare we say life threatening to elders of a certain age of which we are though that’ll be old enough to be your dad though not so old as to be found in the local Darby and Joan club playing dominoes and swigging brown mix. Anyhow enough of that - ’you want the world’ is a superb narcissistic cutie, an anthem for egotists or so it seems drilled with a seizure stricken ear candy day-glo effervescence that’s rapt in hooks and duelling harmonies aplenty which unless we are sorely mistaken sounds not unlike an acutely audacious prime time ‘love bites’ era Buzzcocks in the studio wrapping up another chart bound punk pop pretty only for the impish Mr Devoto and his Magazine sorts to sneak in through the back door and tinker with the tapes adding some of their trademark muscularly wiring psychosis ravaged riffage to the proceedings. A class apart in our book. www.thescratch.co.uk
Thanks mate.

Herts ad review of 5th June Horn gig - by Charlotte Morgan
Dear Scratchers,
Thanks to Charlotte for the review... a few (tiny) inaccuracies... but noneless a nice little write up!
BORN and bred St Albans rockers The Scratch shook The Horn pub stage at their homecoming gig last week.
Punchy pop band The Scratch, who have two albums under their belt, are determined to conquer their hometown of St Albans and kicked off their mission with an electrifying performance on Friday night.
The smartly presented foursome - lead singer Andy Thompson, bassist John Viney, guitarist Andy Grimwood and drummer Barry Jobbling (aka The Baron) - leapt up on stage and launched into Numbers, an upbeat number which quickly got the jam-packed venue going.
The band's boundless energy was infectious and by the end of their second song the crowd had formed their own dance floor, the head bangers amongst them taking centre stage and thoroughly enjoying fast-paced tracks such as Freak Show and Critical Mass.
A cravat-clad Andy remained wonderfully animated throughout the whole hour-long performance and guitarist Andy's fast-fingered strumming seemed to get better and better as the night went on. By the closing song, it was clear that The Scratch enjoyed the gig just as much as the screaming fans up front did.
The Scratch's ultra-confident performance was rewarded with an encore and XFM's DJ Clint Boon, who was there to support his favourite St Albans band, promised the crowd that The Scratch were going to go "all the way to stardom".

Clinterview at Herts Ad online now
Dear Scratchers,
Here's what the great man said about tonight in a 'Clint'erview with the Herts Ad online this week!
A VETERAN of the Madchester scene is heading to St Albans today (Friday) to DJ for one of the city's most successful pop bands.
Clint Boon, who rose to fame with the 1980s band Inspiral Carpets and now DJs for XFM Manchester, will be bringing his deck skills to The Horn pub tomorrow to support his favourite St Albans band, The Scratch.
Clint, who described The Scratch as a "good old-fashioned punk-rock band", will be on from 10pm onwards and said that he was looking forward to warming up the crowd for The Scratch, a four-piece band who met in St Albans.
Clint, aged 49, said that The Scratch is the hardest working band he's ever met: "Those lads are addicted to their music and it's great to spend time with such funny and appreciative people. They love getting up on the stage and having fun - it's so refreshing to see such an uninhibited band."
"I used to play music from their two albums on my evening shows. They've got this Green Day twang to them and I think they'll go all the way. St Albans seems to be a real hot spot for great new bands and places like The Horn are a great platform for them."
Clint, who has promised to play everything from Motown to hip hop music tomorrow night, will be at The Horn until the end of The Scratch gig. Tickets cost £7 on the door and three other local acts, The Harringtons, Cobra Kai and Toxins, will also be performing on the night.
For more information or to buy a ticket in advance for £6, visit www.horn.spodnet.net
See you all tonight!!!
